Now that the largest enlargement in the growth of our government of “healthcare reform” that includes one sixth of our economy has been shoved down the throat of unwilling americans; we await the so called immigration reform push. Up to as many as 20 million illegal aliens await in the wing for a “pathway to citizenship” to reward them for breaking our laws.

There seems to be no discussion about protecting our borders where all this illegal activity goes on. Of particular concern is a small sector of the Mexican border know as the Tucson and Yuma sector. Half of all illegal aliens are caught in these sectors of the border and it is estimated that at least half of all illegal drug seizures along this border are accomplished in this small area.

These events have made living along this segment of the border of ranchers and citizens an unpleasant living hell.
A terrible example of this has been rancher Robert Krentz, a 58 year old rancher found murdered while working his long time family property near this very dangerous area. This rancher had a reputation for helping wanderers in the border lands, despite his own numerous victimizations by lawbreakers

The grieving Krentz family issued a formal statement requesting President Obama immediatley order deployment of the active U.S. military to the Arizona/New Mexico border. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer echoed this request. President Obama has lent a deaf ear to this along with many of our elected representatives. Arizona Senator John McCain finally came around and has requested federal troops. This reverses his stand of many years about border security.

The answer to these developments is not amnesty. Illegal immigration is the symptom of the problem; it is not the problem. A corrupt Mexican government that stifles free enterprise encourages these illegals to cross the border to America for a better quality of life. This has encouraged drug cartel warfare that has spilled across our border. We inherit this problem of illegal aliens coming across our border by the millions. Despite this our government turns a deaf ear to good people like the Krentz family and millions of patriotic citizens who wish to guard our land from this invasion of illegal aliens and the illegal drugs they bring with them.

What kind of a government would not stand up for its citizens rights and protect its borders? The Krentz family and millions of other Americans deserve better. One of our great leaders of recent past said something to the effect “a nation that cannot control its borders will cease to be a nation”. This is so true. Let’s remain a great nation and stand up for our country.

Amnesty is a emphatic NO.

Control our borders, keep them safe and maintain this great country is a emphatic YES.

M.D. Short was the chairman of the American Independent Party of California from 1990-92 when Howard Phillips was organizing the US Taxpayers Party, which would eventually become known as the Constitution Party. It was largely due to the efforts of Chairman Short that the American Independent Party of California became a charter state affiliate of the US Taxpayers Party in 1992.

M.D. Short has served twice has state chairman of the American Independent Party and has been its candidate for office on many occasions, including for the United State Senate. He has consistently been one of the top vote getters and, in fact, received the largest vote of any AIP statewide candidate on one occasion. This year, again, M.D. Short is representing the American Independent Party (and the Constitution Party) as a candidate for Secretary of State in California. He is a proud supporter of Chelene Nightingale for Governor of California and is member of her Constitution Party endorsed slate of candidates for the American Independent Party primary election on June 8. M.D. Short, himself, is unopposed in the primary, so it is not too early to say that he will be our nominee for Secretary of State in California in November.

The following is the text of an address which M.D. Short gave at a recent Tea Party campaign event. It speaks for itself and it speaks volumes about a man, and a candidate, of whom we can all be very proud!]

My name is Merton D. Short

I have been asked to campaign for California Secretary of State as the American Independent Party Candidate.

As most of the ills of our United States are the result of disobedience of our Constitution, my campaign will focus on my contribution in restoring our Constitutional Republic in compliance with our United States Constitution.

The American Independent Party is not new and years ago was on the ballot in all fifty states. We are now affiliated nationally with the Constitution Party. The tenets of the American Independent Party and the Constitution Party are essentially the reflection of what we are now enjoying as the reflection of what we are now enjoying as the Tea Party’s grass roots uprising and ground swell movement toward redeeming our country.

I became a member of the American Independent Party at its California State Convention in Sacramento in 1984. As an example of disobedience to our Constitution I offer the following which was the key campaign issue when I ran for United Sites Senator in 1988 receiving the highest number of votes for our Party.

In 1910 a group of seven of the richest men in America assembled on Jekyll Island off Georgia’s coast and conceived the Federal Reserve System. The plan was carried back to Washington by Senator Nelson Aldrich from Rhode Island. It was ultimately passed into law and signed by President Wilson during the Christmas season in 1913 when most of the legislators had gone home for the holidays.

The unlawful and unconstitutional Federal Reserve System, the FED, since 1913 has been economically disastrous to our country. The 1913 dollar, then worth 100 cents, has now become a Federal Reserve Note managed by international bankers. These current Notes are now worth less than a Nickel in the market place.

Fortunately there can be hope for the future. In February I was invited to attend a meeting on Jekyll Island whose theme was “The Birth & Death of the FED”. The keynote speaker was my long time friend, Congressman Ron Paul from Texas. He is currently sponsoring legislation to audit the FED as a preliminary act in the death of the FED.

As twice State Chairman of the American Independent Party, and California candidate for the US Senate, I have offered my services to perpetuate our party. We are now the largest and fastest growing Party in California.

So who am I?

I was born in the Ozark Hills of Missouri. There were no hospitals for miles around, and I was born on my mother’s parent’s farm attended by the only doctor in this rural community.

My father worked in the local Farmer’s Bank of Cross Timbers, population about 200 residents. He had built a small house to accommodate our small family of an older sister and me. Before long, with a younger brother, my family moved to the next county north to live with my father’s parents who were farmers. Here I started to school in a one room country school house.

Soon we moved to the near town of Warsaw, the county seat with population less than 1000. From here my father went away to law school. After law school he returned to Warsaw and established his law office. Before I reached teenage my father died. Since he had borrowed from his life insurance policy to attend law school we were left penniless upon his death. In combination with the Great Depression I learned what it was like to be poor. Somehow the family survived.

After graduating from Warsaw High School in 1941 I migrated to Kansas City hoping to enroll in radio and electronics school. However, lacking sufficient funds for this school, I went to work for Hall Brothers Greeting Card Company, now Hallmark. In Kansas City when I came out of a Sunday matinee movie I learned of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Soon thereafter one of the greatest breaks of my life happened. By chance, in a music store in Kansas City, my high school music teacher met the Wichita University director of music. From that meeting I was awarded a music scholarship at WU where I played the snare drum in the ROTC marching band and the University Symphony. The scholarship included room and board as well as a part time job at Boeing Wichita during noon and evening meals.

While at WU I joined the Naval Aviation Cadet Program. Almost immediately after my enlistment the flight program pipeline became full, and my call up as a cadet was delayed. Since I was studying aeronautical engineering at the university, I was now hired full time at Boeing as a teenage engineering draftsman. This allowed me to climb in and on the first production model of the B-29 super fortress bomber aircraft. This also afforded me the opportunity to witness the first flight of the B-29.

When I received my commission in the Navy and received my Wings of Gold, I took an oath swearing to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Today that oath is reinforced by the similar oath of the American Legion. As Commander of Post 673 of Durham, California, I lead my comrades in solemnly reciting the similar preamble at every formal meeting.

Trained as a navy fighter pilot flying Grumman Wildcats, I was destined for a composite squadron of fighters and Grumman torpedo bombers based on a Jeep carrier in the Pacific. At the end of WWII I was accepted into the Regular Navy. Subsequent duty included jet instructor, jet fighter pilot, Navy Flight Test Pilot and candidate for the first manned space program as an Astronaut. My Navy career peaked when I became Commanding Officer of an A4 Skyhawk squadron whose mission was nuclear weapons delivery into the Soviet Union. Fortunately, that mission was never accomplished. My last sea tour was carrier based Strike Operations Officer during the early phases of the Vietnam conflict.

So what does all of this have to do with being California’s Secretary of State? In my humble opinion, considerable.

After I hung up my military suit I became involved in upper management of two international aviation oriented corporations maintaining my flying credentials and interest in aviation and space.

In the political arena as twice chairman of a significant political party I have enjoyed a close relationship with the California Secretary of State’s Office. This mutual respect, particularly with its Elections Office, commenced with the founding of the American Independent Party.

My goal as California’s Secretary of State will be to increase significantly the registered voting population with a constitutionally informed electorate.

VIDEO: Chelene Nightingale, American Independent Party / Constitution Party Candidate for Governor of California – Featured speaker at the April 15th 2010 Tea Party Rally in Eureka ( Humboldt County ) California. The event was well attended with approximately 6-800 people attending the rally. Chelene met with many as well as conducting several media and television interviews. During the event, the Redwoods Chapter of the Constitution Party, set up an information / literature table which was well visited.

The Redwoods Chapter wishes to thank Humboldt County Resident Stewart Cox for providing above and beyond help in the organization and pre-publicity of the visit with providing several trucks and logistics for the rolling billboards which were visible in numerous county wide locations leading up to the event. We also wish to thank California Constitution Party Field Director Bill Lussenheide, for his assistance on the state party level helping to bring this very successful event together.

Fresno, CA – Documentary filmmaker, author, and political lecturer, Mr. G. Edward Griffin has endorsed Chelene Nightingale For Governor of California in 2010. Mr. Griffin’s best-selling book “The Creature From Jekyll Island” inspired Ms. Nightingale’s ‘End the Federal Reserve System’ viewpoint, as well as her liberty-minded political beliefs in general. Both G. Edward Griffin and Chelene Nightingale spoke at the Central Valley Tea Party in Fresno, CA before a crowd of over 5,000 on Saturday, April 10th . Although G. Edward Griffin normally does not endorse political candidates, he did write for the American Independent Vice-President Candidate, Curtis LeMay back in 1968. Chelene is currently running for governor on the American Independent ticket on the California ballot. The AIP is recognized by the National Constitution Party as its California affiliate.

Nightingale secured a large amount of media attention at the event as well.

1st Vice Chairman Nigel Brown wishes to announce that a date and location for the CPoW State Convention has been confirmed. Brown chaired a meeting of the Convention and Meetings Committee held in Pewaukee on Jan. 16th where committee members hammered out details for the outing, including potential speakers, convention times, theme and agenda and. The business agenda is yet to be set by the State Committee membership. The meeting will be held in the Olympia Resort’s Westlake Room. We wish to thank Rick Eckert for his enthusiasm for and assistance with this venue, including the use of his outstanding, grand resort.

On our income we pay Social Security taxes, workers compensation taxes, State taxes, Federal taxes and more. There are capital gains taxes, dividend taxes and inheritance taxes.

In my home state there are sales taxes, property taxes, and well over 100 other types of taxes levied on a wide variety of goods and services.

In total, on average, regardless of what state you live in, government takes more than HALF of your income from you in some form of direct or indirect taxation. Amazingly, our nation went to war with England at what started with a tax on stamps and paper! We are well beyond just taxing stamps and paper.

But some would offer the concept that government really does need that money. I would argue strongly against that idea, as the growth of government always leads to a loss of freedom.

But lets suppose for a minute that I actually was a fan of the government receiving more revenue. The pragmatic answer to that problem would be the following… TAX LESS and HAVE MORE GOVERNMENT REVENUE!

I know it sounds insane at first, but the economic truth is out there for anyone to find. World-renowned economist Art Laffer in his landmark economic research has demonstrated conclusively that lower tax rates actually improve government revenue by expanding and simplifying the economy. In his research, using a methodology called the “Laffer Curve” , it is shown that the sweet spot for total taxation is just 20% of economic output. That’s it, just 20%.

The rationale can be explained fairly simply. Somewhere in the sliding scale of 1% to 100% is the percentage that will produce the highest government revenue. When you realize that if you taxed everyone at 100% that no one would work, and that the higher you tax you discourage production or a move economic activity into the underground economy, you start to see the point. According to Laffer, and other economists, 20% of GDP would produce the highest possible revenue for the government, and would stimulate the economy to expand. This as a result of the overall lowering of the tax rates.

When John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan drastically cut tax rates during the administrations, government revenue greatly expanded, nearly doubling in 10 years.

To have 50% or more of our income to pay for government is not only an onerous burden…it is counterproductive! The answer to our budget and economic woes to grow our way out of it, not “Kill the goose that laid the Golden Egg!”

I will argue against Federal Taxation as an unconstitutional provision on some other day, but common and economic fact remains true…lowering of taxes will grow both government revenue and grow the economy.

As your Congressman, I will battle against tax hikes, and will work always towards lowering taxation and the size of government.
